PRE 1976 EUROPEAN CLASSIC CARS, BIKES & COMMERCIALS
& ALL YEAR L.H.D AMERICAN CARS, HOT RODS & CUSTOMS.
My main aim in 2002 was to give classic vehicle owners an event to go to in mid winter, we have many to go to in the summer time but then, come autumn, it most all ends. From that first low key event, this show has grown annually, & the numbers & variety of vehicles that come along on Boxing Day is just astounding. Sometimes the rarest of vehicles appear & some people travel from as far away as Kent & Northampton to participate. It certainly seems to have become a must on many people's social calendars whether they are classic vehicle owners or viewing public & the event has certainly become a bit of a local tradition in Romsey. As the event grew we increased the show area 3 times, which allowed us to be able to also expand the original classification of pre 1973 to pre 1976
a couple of years back but still all our car parks were full within half an hour of officially start time this year !!!
The all year round organising & promoting etc come to fruition on Boxing Day from 9am til 1pm, in Romsey's town centre, in the ALDI store car park & CROSFIELD HALL car park & in the BROADWATER ROAD / BUS STATION car parks. NO pre regisstration is required, though an earlyish arrival is recommended due to the large numbers participating each year.
"So WHY the pre '76 classification??"
Romsey is a small market town, not a city, we utilise the towns best 3 central car parks for ease of finding & for access to public toilets etc. As stated above we have gleened the maximum amount of space that can from Aldi & T.V.B.C. Whilst as car nuts there are obviously post 1976 cars we like but we have to have a cut off year due to the space constrictions & I feel 1893 to 1976 covers a wide enough variety of cars especially when between 600 & 700 this year arrived within half an hour, which proves we are at our maximum stretch in years of classification. We have all seen too many classic car events ruined by a multitude of Euro hot hatches etc showing up & we are often complimented on not having let Romsey go the same way. If somebody feels they have something of extra special interest POST 1976 they are more than welcome to contact us prior to the event & if we feel it's an interesting vehicle that the public will like, we will allow it entry, as we have done on several occasions. However do NOT just turn up in any old post 1976 vehicle & expect to barge your way in and then get disgruntled when we have to turn you away, ask first please.
So, Mr Gold 1982 Mercedes & Mr & Mrs 1983 Mini pick up, some slip through the net & yes Mr Black '89 Lancia, if we are able to be more flexible when approached by a post 1976 vehicle, that we think is likely to be of interest to people, we will but when it gets busy & space is tight, we have to stick to the pre '76 ruling & make decisions & if that decision goes against yourself, where you fall outside of our vehicle classifications, please try & understand our predicament regards space, it really isn't personal!
All the very best, happy motoring & I am glad to say we WILL be back Boxing Day 2012 !!
Steve B & The Team.
